Marketing Washington “The State” Overseas
The international market brings visitors who stay longer than domestic tourists and spend more in the Pacific Northwest.
Washington State Tourism works with the overseas travel trade industry and media to develop an awareness of and generate interest in, Pacific Northwest products, people and places.
In 2009, total international visitor spending was 1.2 BILLION.
From the overseas countries, Japan is the largest source of international visitors to Washington State, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the emerging market of China.
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that 3.5 million international visitors traveled to the United States in February 2010, an increase of 22 percent over February 2009. February 2010 registers the fifth straight month of increases in U.S. arrivals. For the first two months of 2010, visitation was up 15 percent compared to the same period in 2009.

In May of 2010, the US Department of Commerce, ITA, and Office of Travel and Tourism predicted international visitor arrivals to United States will increase by an average of 31%, in the year of 2014.
